94550 A -- LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS INDUSTRIAL
PARTNERSHIP TO COMMERCIALIZE TECHNOLOGIES FOR DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING
APPLICATIONS UTILIZING SEMICONDUCTOR DETECTORS SOL 98-001.VL DUE 012498
POC Steven Kreek E-MAIL: click here to contact the contracting officer
via e-mail., sanders9@llnl.gov. Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory, operated by the University of California under contract to
the U.S. Department of Energy, is seeking expressions of interest from
U.S. companies to commercialize a prototype digital signal processing
technology utilizing semiconductor detectors, developed at Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory. This technology derives the radial
energy deposition of gamma-rays that interact in a conventional
cylindrical High Purity Germanium (HPGe) detector. The radial energy
deposition is utilized in a special algorithm to perform real-time
Compton suppression and does not require the use of anti-coincidence
detectors. Current capabilities allow a data throughput of about 1 kHz,
but modifications planned this fiscal year should improve throughput to
about 5 kHz. An industrial partner is sought to optimize this Compton
suppression technology for commercial use. Expressions of interest from
U.S. companies are also sought to undertake joint efforts to extend
this digital signal processing technology into new application areas.
For example, in one application currently under research, the radial
energy deposition is determined for a segmented HPGe detector in
conjunction with the determination of azimuthal and depth depositions.
If excellent position resolution can be obtained, new applications
become possible in gamma-ray imaging as well as enhancements to
existing imaging technologies. Written expressions of interest should
be sent within 60 days of this announcement to: Steven A. Kreek, Ph.D.,
Deputy Safeguards Technology Program Leader, Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory, P.O. Box 808, L-231, Livermore, CA 94550. This is
not a procurement. All projects are conducted under policies relating
to the strict nondisclosure of company proprietary information. This
announcement is for expressions of interest only and is not associated
with any specific funding opportunity, solicitation, assistance award,
etc. (0329) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0009 19971128\A-0009.SOL)
