This publication serves as notice of intent to procure, on a sole-source basis, with Destron/Fearing Corporation, for 120,000 Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) Tags, Model TX1411A or equivalent. The required components must consist of: 1) electromagnetic coil and microchip programmed with a unique identification code, tag electronics must be enclosed in a biologically inert sealed glass tube, and tag operating temperature shall be between -40 and 70 degrees C; 2) tags shall be cylindrical and suitable for injection into the abdominal cavity of juvenile salmonids; 3) tags shall not exceed 12 mm in length, 2.1 mm in diameter, or weigh more than 0.06 grams in air, and tags must be injectable through a 12 gauge needle; 4) tags shall be energized at 400 kHz and transmit an identification code at 40 to 50 kHz, tags shall be readable by existing portable tag detectors, dual loop PIT tag detectors, and the flat plate detector system presently in use at the Bonneville Dam First Powerhouse Juvenile Bypass System, tags shall be capable of being activated, interrogated, and decoded in vivo, readability distance shall be at least 4 inches when tags are held perpendicular to the face of a portable tag detector; 5) tag codes shall be unique and not be duplicates of codes previously used in the Columbia River system. All interested concerns must submit documentation demonstrating complete interchangability and compatibility with the Destron/Fearing 400 kHz Pit-Tag Monitoring System within 15 days of the publication date of this notice.
