When specified, the item with accessories shall be supplied in a case with individual compartments. Each case compartment shall provide a safe compact & secure method of storing the item & each accessory. The case shall be made of a sturdy & durable wool, plastic or metal which shall be capable of protecting the item & accessories, shall provide for convenient item & accessory selection & shall prevent damage during handling, shipment and storage. With the case secured in a closed position, the item & accessories shall not be displaced from their individual compartments by any orientation of the case. The case shall have at least one shutter hook, snap-type latch or similar hardware or a spring loaded locking device to secure the case in a closed position. The case shall be fitted with at least two hinges or a continuous hinge. Wood cases shall have a protective interior & exterior coating (e.g. varnish, shellac, paint). Plastic cases shall be constructed of a double layer, impact resistant plastic. Metal cases shall be corrosion resistant or have a corrosion resistant coating (e.g. plating, paint) on interior & exterior surfaces. Metal hardware (e.g. hinges, hinge pins, latches, screws) on cases shall be corrosion resistant or have a corrosion resistant plating; paint shall not be the primary corrosion resistant coating on metal hardware. Paints, coatings, platings & finishes shall be smooth, dry, adherent, continuous & not stained or discolored. Fasteners shall be firmly secured & show no evidence of deformation, cross threading or hazardous burrs. Adhesives & lubricants adequate for their intended purpose shall be properly & neatly applied. Adhesives shall be adequately cured. Wires & cables shall be neatly dressed & shall not be frayed or in contact with sharp edges. Wires & cables insulation shall show no evidence of burns, abrading or pinch marks. There shall be no interference, binding or galling of parts. External & bearing surfaces shall be free of tool & gouge marks, nicks or other surface imperfections. The item shall be clean & free of corrosion & debris (e.g. chips, shavings, slivers) or other foreign material. The item shall be free from manufacturing workmanship defects (e.g. loose, missing binding or misaligned parts, sharp or rough external edges, corners or surfaces) & material workmanship defects (e.g. pits, rips, fins, burrs, tears, nodules, cracks, blisters) which may adversely impact the items servicability, durability, safety or appearance; T3.1-Each item (including all items within a set or kit) shall be marked with the manufacturer's name or identifying symbol & the state or country of manufacture unless otherwise specified.
