DeStefano, Contract Specialist, 212-264-4874. Contractor shall proceed
to Athens, New York and take soil and rock samples to a depth of 26.0'
below mean low water at 23 locations in a channel adjacent to the
Hudson River. The contractor shall be required to take continuous soil
samples using the Standard Penetration Test methods and procedures to
an anticipated depth of 26.0 feet below mean low water. It is
anticipated that there will be no more than ten split spoon samples per
boring. The contractor shall be prepared to take three undisturbed
samples using Shelby Tubes. Testing will include grain size analysis,
moisture content, specific gravity, unit weight and Three Point
Triaxial Tests (CU or UU). The work is to begin as soon as possible to
avoid delays due to weather or the freezing of the river. The work is
to be completed by 31 December 1997. Soil and rock samples will be
delivered to the New York District's soils warehouse at the Caven Point
Terminal in Jersey City, New Jersey. Contractors are advised to request
the entire specification for complete information. Quotes may be mailed
