U -- ESTABLISH PRE-VOCATIONAL TRAINING COMPONENT FOR WOMEN IN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE SOL DTFH61-98-Q-00012 DUE 121597 POC Andrew Julian, Contracting Officer, FHWA Region 3, 410-962-0077 The Federal Highway Administration intends to award a Sole Source Purchase Order to the YWCA of the National Capital Area to establish a pre-vocational training componenet in Highway Construction and Maintenance. Since 1993, the YWCA has operated a successful program which exposed women to various nontraditional trades and provided assistance in making informed career choices. With a pre-existing training program already established, the FHWA hopes to attract women toward trasnporation-related fields such as highway construction and maintenance. The YWCA is uniquely qualified to achieve these objectives in a most cost-effective manner because of their successful history in providing extensive training experience to prepare and improve women's employability in nontraditional professions for over 90 years.
