68 -- LIQUID POLYMER SOL N00167-98-Q-0050 DUE 121797 POC Ray Park, Contracting Officer, 301-227-1121, FAX 301-227-1847 The Carderock Division Naval Surface Warfare Center intends to negotiate a sole source procurement with Thorodin for 6,800 lb. of NGD-35 Liquid Polymer. The liquid polymers will be combined to produce a solid polyurethane material for Navy applications. This particular formulation was verified under an extensive R&D effort that not only ensured that the material could be manufactured according to strict guidelines, but once made, had demonstrable physical properties. The verification tests were conducted over a period of two years and represent a significant Navy investment(the minimum test duration is one year,consisting of processing tests of liquid components as well as mechanical and long term exposure tests of cured materials). A key element of this procurement is vendor demonstration of the acceptability of the liquid materials by preparing solid polyurethane material samples for Navy testing. The contract will have a six month period of performance. Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirement under the authority of FAR 6.302.1.
