DAAL01-97-R-ARL POC Christi Winkler, ARL BAA Coordinator, (301)
394-3385, cwinkler@arl.mil. FY97 ARL Broad Agency Announcement --
Amendment 8 -- This synopsis is an additional topic to the Sensors and
Electron Devices Directorate. This amendment will be available on the
ARL Home Page (http://w3.arl.mil/baa). Topic 2.45 -- Chemical and
Biological Warfare Agent Detection -- The Sensors and Electron Devices
Directorate is focusing on a new effort to explore available detection
technology for sensing Chemical and Biological Agents. Application of
the technology to arrive at a sensor device must have desirable
properties for field operations. The detector must be highly specific
in analyte identification, small in size for field portability, and
stable for long periods of time under various environmental conditions.
Our current interest include the development of biosensors through the
use of biological recognition systems biocoupled to a signal
transducing system. The biological systems may include enzyme-substrate
interactions, antibody-antigen binding, receptor-ligand, and nucleotide
hybridization reactions. The biocoupling matrix should be
custom-designed to house the biological system employed and it should
also have high fidelity in transferring the biological signals to a
transducing device. The signal transducers of interest may include, but
are not limited to. electrochemical, optoelectronic, or
piezoelectronic, mechanisms. TPOC: Tommy K. Wong 301-721-3432 All
responsible sources may submit a bid or proposal which will be
considered by the Agency. No telephone requests will be honored.
