Soderstrom, Contracting Officer, (202)685-3160 The Engineering Field Activity Chesapeake intends to construct a new Denitration/Mix and Acid Storage Facility at the Indian Head Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head, Md. The selected contractor shall construct an 11,500 SF engineered metal building that contains a denitration facility, acid mixing plant and acid storage facility. Supporting facilities include condensing and refrigeration systems, electronic control systems, and piping and pumping systems of appropriate materials to handle a range of concentrations of nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and mixed acids. Additional supporting facilities include site work (electrical and civil) and HVAC systems. The contractor must have demonstrated experience with specialized materials used in processing nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and mixed acids. These materials include PTFE-lined steel, glass-lined steel, silicon carbide, PTFE, armored process glass, and stainless steel. The contractor also must have demonstrated experience in the installation and startup of evaporation and distillation equipment. The Nitric Acid concentration, Sulfuric Acid Concentration, and NOx absorber systems required under this construction contract are strictly limited to those provided by QVF Process system, Inc. The estimated price range for the entire construction contract is $4,000,000.00 -- $8,000,000.00. Preliminary plans will be issued on or about 20 January 1998. Interested sources are requested to provide information pertaining to the capabilities of construction, start-up and operation of chemical manufacturing facilities as noted above.
