(FPI), which operates under the trade name UNICOR, intends to enter into a replacement contract for panel fabrics to be incorporated into FPI's systems furniture product offering. FPI is a wholly-owned Government Corporation within the Department of Justice, under the Federal Prison System. FPI operates more than 100 factories and its product lines include over 175 separate products and services sold exclusively to federal agencies and the Department of Defense. UNICOR's mission is to employ and provide skills training to the greatest practicable number of inmates in federal correctional facilities necessary to ensure the safe and secure operation of such institutions, and in doing so, to produce market priced, quality goods in a self-sustaining manner that minimizes potential impact on private business and labor. FPI currently offers approximately 100 standard panel fabrics in a variety of colors, heathers, crepes, and jacquards. FPI expects to initially select approximately 50 panel fabrics from the successful offeror to be used as FPI's standard offering to its customers. The successful contractor will also be FPI's source for the 100 existing panel fabrics and any speciality fabrics on an as-needed basis.
