FUNDS The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Menlo Park, California has a
requirement for drilling of test hole and installation of monitoring
well(s) near Fallon, Nevada in Churchill County. The purpose of the
test hole and wells is to obtain geologic, water level and water
chemistry data at different depths in and near the Fallon basalt
aquifer. The upper portion of the hole will be drilled through
approximately 400 feet of basin-fill sediments (gravel, sand, silt and
clay) overlying the basalt aquifer. The lower portion of the hole will
be drilled through the basalt and possibly into an underlying
sedimentary aquifer. The thinkness of basalt aquifer to be drilled is
decribed by three alternative test hold and well designs (contained in
the Statement of Work). The holes and permanent steel casing shall be
of minimum diameter to meet Nevada State Regulations and allow test
hole drilling and installation of monitoring wells, as described by the
Alternatives (contained in the Statement of Work)., constructed of 2
inch diameter, flush-joint threaded Schedule 80 PVC casing and screen
at specified depths and emplacement of gravel pack near screened
intervals and bentonite grout between screened intervals using a tremie
pipe. Listed diameters are suggested minimum nominal values. Nevada
State Regulations require the test hole to be 4 inches greater than the
diameter of a single casing, or the combined diameter of multiple
casings. A Site Visit is scheduled for December 29, 1997, 10:00AM PST.
