Lockheed Martin Idaho Technologies Company (LMITCO), a management and operating contractor for the Department of Energy (DOE) at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) is seeking interest in the licensing of a technology. The INEEL has developed a Prototype Design for Treating Cyanide-Laden Waters at Remote Locations. This design has been developed for a prototype treatment unit that will destroy free and complexed cyanide in waters located in remote regions. The prototype will accomplish the cyanide destruction by exploiting sunlight-initiated photochemical processes, and is designed specifically to operate as a stand-alone unit requiring only a minimum of operator involvement. Potential applications of this treatment unit include acid mine drainage, nuisance run-off from cyanide heap leaching operations, as well as industrial sites that require a low-cost method of treating cyanide in water.
