NRA-98-MTPE-01 Opportunities for Hydrometeorological Participation in the Large-scale Biosphere-atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA POC Dr. Dennis Lettenmaier, Land Surface Hydrology Program Scientist Phone (202) 358-1847 FAX (202) 358-2771 Solicitation release date: January 5, 1998 Step 1 proposals due February 23, 1998 Step 2 proposals due May 1, 1998 The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announces the solicitation of proposals for participation in the Large-scale Biosphere-atmosphere experiment in Amazonia (LBA), being undertaken in part with the support of the Science Division of the Office of Mission to Planet Earth (MTPE). The Science Division supports research and analysis that would promote and increase the use of remotely sensed information for detecting and evaluating environmental status and change at both regional and global scales. The Large-scale Biosphere-atmosphere experiment in Amazonia (LBA) is an international research initiative, lead by Brazil, designed to create the new knowledge needed to understand the climatological, ecological, biogeochemical, and hydrological functioning of Amazonia, as well as the impact of land use change on these functions, and the interactions between Amazonia and the earth system. Four topics will be emphasized in this NRA that have relevance to the hydrometeorological objectives of LBA: (1) global scale hydrometeorology, (2) continental and regional scale hydrometeorology (3) mesoscale hydrometeorology, and (4) regional and continental scale surface hydrology. This solicitation will be available electronically on the release date via the Internet at the Mission to Planet Earth Home Page http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/mtpe under "MTPE Research Announcements" or via anonymous ftp at ftp://ftp.hq.nasa.gov/pub/mtpe. Paper copies of the NRA will be available to those who do not have access to the Internet by calling (202) 358-3552 and leaving a voice mail message.
