K -- AAV HULL MODIFICATIONS DUE 122397 POC James O. Brothers, Contract Specialist, Code 891-1, (912)439-6753 Contracting Officer, Larry F. Pendley, Code 891-1, (912)439-6761. The Marine Corps Logistics Bases is seeking sources capable of performing modifications to the Amphibious Assualt Vehicle (AAV) hull. The modifications are part of the AAV Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability/Rebuild to Standard (RAM/RS) Program. The modifications are necessary to enable the installation of a modified suspension system and new engine. Modifications would include but are not limited to welding and machining of stripped ballistics aluminum alloy hulls with variations in dimensions from vehicle to vehicle. Potential sources should have the capability to lift and precisely maneuver a hull with approximate dimensions of 130 inches in width, 130 inches in height, 321 inches in length and approximately 30,000 pounds in weight. The Marine Corps will rebuild 680 AAV's starting October 1, 1998 with completion by September 30, 2002. The Marine Corps will utilize it's two Maintenance Centers located in Albany, GA and Barstow, CA to perform the rebuild portion of the AAV RAM/RS Program. Neither site is facilitized to perform the required hull modifications. The current concept is for vehicles to be inducted into the two Maintenance Centers, disassembled and the hull sent to a private sector source for modification to a Government furnished technical data package with an associated producibility analysis. The expected production rate for planning purposes is approximately 170 vehicles per year. The Government does not intend to provide the necessary facilitization, equipment and tooling as Government Furnished Property. Current production plans require completion of the first hull modification 60 days ARO, and delivery of subsequent hull modifications at a rate as high as one per day. Respondents are requested to provide information indicating their experience with same or similar type work, schedule capacity, a description of their facilities and other information indicating their capability to perform this type of work at contractor site and/or Marine Corps Maintenance Center sites. In addition, responses should indicate ability to provide a wide variety of parts applicable to the AAV which will be utilized in the rebuild process. This request is for information only and shall be provided at no cost to the Government. While all information provided may be utilized for preparation of a planned Request For Proposal and for the purposes of identifying potential offerors, there will be no contract awarded pursuant to this Request For Information. Facsimile submission of information is acceptable. FAX (912)439-6793. (0344)
