COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF DECEMBER 15,1997 PSA#1992TRADE EVENT NOTICE Partnership Helps U.S. Companies Tap Chinese
Information Technology Market via China's Internet WASHINGTON, D.C. --
The U.S. Department of Commerce and the California-based firm PC21 are
inviting U.S. companies to tap the lucrative China information
technology market through a virtual USA Technology Industries Pavilion
on PC21's CyberExpo web site in China. CyberExpo is a 24-hour virtual
trade show on the Chinanet, China's main Internet network. The USA
Technology Industries Pavilion's focus is on promoting U.S. firms to
the Chinese business community in the Chinese language. One way it
accomplishes this is by providing profiles on the U.S. companies that
participate in specific Commerce-sponsored trade promotion events, such
as trade missions and catalog exhibitions. Participants in the
Department's recent USA Catalog Exhibition at China Computerworld 97,
China's largest computer trade show, received a complimentary
Chinese-language listing in the USA virtual pavilion on CyberExpo.
Participants in any of three upcoming China trade promotion events can
also qualify for a free listing. The trade promotion events include a
medical and dental devices/laboratory instruments trade mission in
April 1998, a computer trade mission in May 1998, and a catalog
exhibition at China Computerworld in September 1998. The U.S.
Technology Industries Pavilion will also provide links to information
provided by trade associations and state economic development offices.
The U.S. Information Technology Office in Beijing, the
Telecommunications Industry Association, and the American Electronics
Association have already agreed to create Chinese-language content for
the site. State governments and additional trade associations are also
considering developing content for the website. The Commerce Department
is considering expanding the scope of the virtual pavilion to include
industries such as energy and environmental technologies. The American
Embassy in Beijing is also providing information on U.S.
Governmentservices to further encourage U.S. exports. CyberExpo in
China is located at a backbone node of Chinanet,

at PC21 homepage, http://www.pc21.com. For more information about
