E-MAIL: Panice H. Clark, P.H.CLARK@larc.nasa.gov. NASA plans to issue NASA Research Announcement (NRA) 98-3 on or about January 12, 1998, for the development of flight-applicable technology for the active control of fan tone noise from turbofan-powered subsonic transport aircraft. Recent experiments have demonstrated near elimination of tones when only a few modes are present, but, in general, large numbers of sensors and actuators are required. NASA is looking for innovative approaches to achieve large reductions in the numbers of sensors and actuators required to significantly reduce community noise from turbofans. Participation in this NRA is open to all individuals and categories of domestic organizations, including industry, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, NASA centers, and other Government agencies. Technical evaluations will be conducted through a peer review process by discipline specialists from Langley Research Center and Lewis Research Center. Proposals for up to 3 years of research support will be solicited. Approximately $200k, $500k, and $100k will available to fund this work in FY 1998, FY 1999, and FY 2000, respectively. Cost sharing arrangements may be proposed, as well as teaming ventures to develop entire systems. The use of government facilities may be proposed. Multiple awards may result from this announcement. Copies of the NRA detailing specific proposal requirements and technical criteria may be obtained via World Wide Wed in html format at the following URL: http://db-www.larc.nasa.gov/procurement/larc/synopsis-index/bus-opts.h tml/ or by contacting either POC after January 12, 1998. Written requests should be addressed to Dr. Joe W. Posey, MS 461, NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA 23681-0001. This NRA will be open for a period of ninety days from the date of issuance. In responding, refer to announcement NRA 98-LaRC-3. Points of Contact Joe W. Posey, Technical contact, (757)-864-7686, Fax: (757) 864-8290, E-mail: J.W.POSEY@larc.nasa.gov Dennis L.
