The Army is seeking sources capable of supplying a Contact Maintenance Truck, Heavy (CMTH). The CMTH consists of three major components. The first major component is the truck chassis, a heavy variant of the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). The truck chassis will be furnished by the Government. The second major component is an enclosure that is mounted onto the chassis of the HMMWV that provides the physical security for the tools, protecting them from environmental threats and pilferage, while at the same time providing for organized storage and retrieval, and in some instances, use of the loaded tools. Part of the organizational capability of the shelter is provided by installed cabinetry with drawers and other compartments to hold the tools and other items. The enclosure is to be provided by the contractor. The third major component is the tool load. The tool load consists of a large collection of wrenches, pliers, socket sets, screw drivers, a vise, a built in arc welding machinethat takes its power from an under the hood electric generator, fuel gas welding and cutting equipment including cylinders of gas and the racks to hold them in place, a rotary vane air compressor, necessary cables and hoses, work lights, and all of the necessary safety equipment for the mechanics. The tool load will be specified by the Government and provided/installed by the contractor. This includes the installation of certain under hood components. The CMTH has several requirements controlling its maximum overall dimensions and weight. The system requires the ability to withstand off road driving conditions while keeping its load organized, intact and unharmed. The total system is required to be deployed through any of several means including air transport and has operating environment requirements from arctic to desert conditions, including swamps, coastal environs, and mountain terrain. The CMTH is intended to be the ultimate "got it all and go anywhere" tool box that will allow the Army's mechanics to repair a weapon system such that it can return to battle or limp home under its own power for more extensive repairs.
