gwallis@central.unicor.gov. Federal Prison Industries, Inc. (FPI),
which operates under the trade name UNICOR, intends to enter into a
contract for a line of ergonomic seating that will be incorporated into
FPI's current offering of office chairs. FPI is a wholly-owned
Government Corporation within the Department of Justice, under the
Federal Prison System. FPI operates more than 100 factories and its
product lines include over 175 separate products and services sold
exclusively to federal agencies and the Department of Defense. UNICOR's
mission is to employ and provide skills training to the greatest
practicable number of inmates in federal correctional facilities
necessary to ensure the safe and secure operation of such institutions,
and in doing so, to produce market priced, quality goods in a
self-sustaining manner that minimizes potential on private business and
labor. This ergonomic line is intended to update and expand FPI's
current chair offering of the following seating products: Ergo High
Back Chair, Ergo Low Back Chair, Ergo Lobby/Conference Chair, Ergo
Guest Chair, and Deluxe Ergo Chair and will be a complementary offering
to FPI's Legacy, Tempo, and Transitional Ergonomic Chair Lines.
Additional information regarding UNICOR's schedule of products and
services can be found on our website at www.unicor.gov. Specifications
and photographs for the chairs discussed herein can be found by
clicking on the "Browse Catalog" button, then the "Quickship" button,
then the "Seating" icon, and then the "Ergonomic Chairs" link. FPI
anticipates that it will initially purchase this line of ergonomic
seating at a kit or component level in order to assemble and upholster
the chairs. However, the contract will include vertical integration
rights permitting FPI to manufacture any combination of chair
components ovver the life of the contract. A five year fixed-price
contract with an economic price adjustment provision is anticipated.
