COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF DECEMBER 22,1997 PSA#1997Commander, Marine Corps System Command, Code CTQ, 2033 Barnett Avenue,
Ste 315, Quantico, VA 22134-5010 10 -- MACHINE GUN TRIPOD SOL M67854-97-R-0007 DUE 011598 POC M. A.
Norris, Contracting Offier, (703) 696-0919 The Marine Corps Systems
Command is interested in identifying manufacturers/dealers with the
capability to provide the Marine Corps with an improved heavy machine
gun (I-HMG) ground mount system through a NDI, COTS, or modified COTS
procurement. The I-HMG mount system will replace the existing M3 tripod
mount and will be the primary USMC ground mount for the M2 . 50 caliber
HMG and the MK19 40mm GMG. The mount system will consist of a multi-leg
ground support platform assembly, which both supports the HMG's
receiver and/or cradle assembly, and provides for a traversing and
elevating (T&E) function using the existing T&E mechanism currently
employed on USMC HMG's. The I-HMG mount will better compliment the
extended range, tactical responsiveness, and mobility characteristics
of USMC HMGs than the current M3 tripod (42.56 lbs) by reducing the
weight of the mount to 15.6 lbs. (objective) and 25 lbs (threshold).
The I-HMG mount will be able to fold, or otherwise possess a means to
reduce its ground deployed dimensions by 50% for storage or ground
transport. The I-HMG mount must perform as well as the M3 tripod in the
following performance areas: Accuracy and repeatability of fire,
operational availability, mean time to repair, and NBC decontamination
capability. Threshold service life of the I-HMG system is that of the
supported HMG (50,000 rds). The I-HMG will be capable of effective
employment (equal to the M3 system) under the same environmental
conditions as the HMG. Threshold usability of the system in NBC/MOPP
will be equal to the M3 tripod system. Commercial or NDI product data
is requested consisting of a commercial product descriptive data sheet
and description of system employment capabilities and characteristics.
This is not a request for proposal. Interested companies should FAX
their descriptive literature and related data sheets to M.A. Norris,
