point of contact, TROBINS3@email.usps.gov. The Postal Service is
seeking sources to be pre-qualified for parcel sorter improvements for
the Bulk Mail Center (BMC) network. Companies will be pre-qualified to
install new and/or refurbish existing parcel sorters in the existing
BMCs. The BMC network consists of twenty-one facilities throughout the
United States. Each BMC has several carousel Tilt Tray parcel sorters.
These sorters were installed in the early 1970's and no longer
represent the state of the art in sorter technology. Two categories of
improvement are sought and are defined as follows: (1) Sorter
retrofits where the chain and bull wheel driven carriages are replaced
with a linear induction motor based system using existing induction
stations and sorter controls (2) Sorter replacement whereby an entire
sorter with induction stations and controls are to be provided. The
minimum requirements are that sorters are to fit within the current
footprint of existing sorters. Any designs exceeding the footprint will
be subject to Postal Service approval. Minimum throughput is 9600
parcels per hour off one platform. Minimum parcel size is 2"x3"x1/8" at
4 oz. Maximum parcel size is 17"x34"x17" at 35 lb. Noise level is not
to exceed 80dB. The sorter must be able to interface with current FMPCS
controls for reports. Interested vendors should have existing equipment
that is installed and operating. For pre-qualification, the offeror is
asked to submit specifications and literature of current sorter
technology to Tammi Robinson at USPS Automation Purchasing, 8403 Lee
Highway, Merrifield, VA 22082-8150 within 30 days of this notice. The
Postal Service will then request to visit sites to inspect sorters
currently installed and operating and to review the maintenance history
of the sorters. (0352) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0181 19971223\39-0001.SOL)
