The Air Force Combat Weather Center (AFCWC) is soliciting information on the latest generation of PC-based weather forecasting and meteorological analysis sofware. The software must operate on desktop, laptop, and lunchbox computers with Pentium and Pentium-II processors using Windows 95/98 and/or Windows NT operating systems. Some examples of the types of products we are interested in having the software produce are: analysis of surface and upper air meteorological plot and gridded data; 3-dimensional weather data displays; single station and composite Doppler, radar refletivity, or lightning displays; weather product and satellite data manipulation, display, and animation; single station or limited data analysis and forecasting; upper air sounding (Skew-T) displays; and weather data capturing or access programs. The weather data sources used by AFCWC include military sites, modem accessed sites, and data available via the World Wide Web. Government (e.g., Air Force, Navy, and National Weather Service) and free data access sources for weather data are preferreed. Demonstration copies of the software must be made available by the vendor -- AFCWC will not purchase any software until it has been tested, evaluated, and identified as suitable to meet the needs of the unit and its worldwide Air Force Weather customers. The preferred software evaluation period will be 60 days. If training is necessary to use the software, the vendor must provide it at their own expense.
