65 -- PERSONAL INFORMATION CARRIER (MEDICAL) PIC (M) IS A SMALL, RUGGED, TAG-LIKE DEVICE INTENDED TO STORE AN INDIVIDUAL'S MEDICAL STATUS HISTORY. SOL 074&&&-9712-0001 POC Contract Specialist Cheryl Miles (301)619-7148, Contracting Officer Jean Shinbur (301)619-7427, email: cheryl_miles@ftdetrck-ccmail.army.mil (Site Code DAMD17) Request for Information/Interest: As an integral companion to its electronic medical record program, the Department of Defense has established the Personal Information Carrier (PIC) program to develop for military use a means of storing and transporting electronic information. The PIC will consist of both a ruggedized portable storage device on which a multimedia electronic medical record could be stored and an adapter for integration of the storage device into a standard computer system. Technical Objectives of this program will include, but are not limited to: 1. Durable construction of the portable storage device to withstand use in military environments (e.g., waterproof, dust proof, shockproof, shear proof, unbreakable, tamper proof, and able to be decontaminated). The device should be small enough for a soldier to wear (e.g., dogtag-like). 2. Type II PCMCIA Compatibility of the PIC Adapter. 3. Open Systems, Standards Based Architecture (e.g., ATA/IDE) to allow for unencumbered usage in multiple application environments. 4. Storage Capacities of at least 10 megabytes now with a clear migration path to greater than 64 megabytes with no change in reader requirements or configuration. 5. Ability to secure data through authentication and encryption using recognized industry standards All interested companies should submit their name to the Contract Specialist via telephone, facsimile, letter, or eMail NLT 7 Jan 98. Tentative schedule: Information packages distributed to interested parties by 12 Jan 98. Questions and pertinent comments must be submitted to the Contracting Officer NLT 16 Jan 98. A Conference to answer questions and discuss information on the device will be held on 23 Jan 98. The intent is to solicit prototype systems that will be examined and may be destructively tested under loan agreements. (0357)
