S -- - NOTICE OF INTENT TO NEGOTIATE A SOLE SOURCE CONTRACT FOR SERVICING NOAA SHIP KAIMIMOANA'S CAATERPILLAR D-398 MAIN ENGINES. Notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with Pacific Machinery in Waipahu, Hawaii to provide scheduled maintenance on Caterpillar engines. Vendor will provide 10,000-hour scheduled maintenance on two (2) of the NOAA Ship KAIMIMOANA's Caterpillar D-398 main engines, serial numbers 35Z01551 and 35Z01552. Vendor will 1) replace existing cylinder heads with OEM remanufactured heads, 2) replace existing turbochargers with OEM remanufactured turbochargers, and 3) remove, clean, inpect, test and reinstall aftercoolers. Vendor will also replace all seals, gaskets, and damaged fasteners discovered during servicing. NOAA ship will be moored at the Pearl Harbor Naval Station from 12/17/97 -- 1/17/98. All work must be completed by two days before sailing. It is not anticipated that any other vendor will be able to perform the maintenance service due to extreme urgency; however, sources may request solicitation WASC-8-658 by contacting Randall Brown at 206-526-6226 or fax 206-526-6025.
