The Air Force is planning to compete a contract for the purchase of the HORACE Weather System Software for the Air Force Weather-Europe Office. The software is compatible with the HORACE Weather Data System Hardware. The core software is written in C and FORTRAN, with GKS and X for visualization. Systems analysis and design are aided by CASE tool Software-through-Pictures. Emphasis is placed on sound basic design to provide flexibility for both the users and the developers, and to facilitate the speedy addition of new features. This system will be used to track all meteorological events within the European Command Region. Software support will include installation and training for system administrators, as well as recurring upgrades over a three to five year period.
