These negatives are made by electronic plotters from digital raster files maintained by cartographers. These negatives must be examined and prepared for the chart production process by lithographic inspectors. MCD has a requirement for a lithographic inspector.knowledgeable in nautical cartography symbology to perform the following functions: 1) Examine pre-press reproducibles produced by negative engravers or electronic plotters; 2) Certify that pre-press negatives meet critical requirements, established lithographic standards and specifications for nautical charts; 3) Ensure that printing quality and registration of negatives are acceptable for nautical chart production; 4) physically register all negatives so that all colors will fit on chart; 5) Ensure that negatives fit those plates used in production of previous edition of chart; 6) Clean negatives and "spot" imperfections created during the processing and developing of film; 7) Measure size of negatives using coordinatograph and compare size to previous edition of chart; 8) Examine proof copy of chart for accuracy of tints, symbology, and other lithographic requirements and annotate revisions to make chart acceptable for printing. Period of Performance: Date of Award thru September 30, 1998 (approximately 37 weeks @ 40 hours/week). MCD intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with John Morrison, a former government lithographic inspector, to provide this service.
