Herting The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation ( PBGC ) seeks to extend the period of performance for one year (10/01/98 through 09/30/99) under an existing cost contingency contract for debt collection services. The current contract provides assistance in the collection of debts owed to PBGC such as past-due premium, penalties, and/or Interest amounts, judgment obtained by the PBGC, promissory notes, and delinquent settlement agreements. Additionally, the contract is for services to obtain counsel of record to PBGC in the U.S. Federal Courts throughout the U.S. and its territories for the filing of lawsuits and conducting of litigation or proceedings before U.S. magistrates to collect amount due and owing the PBGC. The contract extension will provide time for PBGC to assess the impact of the Department of Treasury s debt collection programs (as defined by the Debt Collection Improvement Act) on our debt collection requirements, it is in the best interest of PBGC to have the current provider continue to perform these services in view of their familiarity with PBGC s debt collection activities.
