On or about 10 February 1998, this office will issue Invitation for Bids for the construction of DEROIN BEND CHANNEL RESTORATION PROJECT, MISSOURI RIVER, MO. Bids will be opened on or about 12 March 1998. This solicitation is unrestricted and open to both large and small business participation. Contractors interested in inspecting the site of the proposed work should contact the Area Engineer's Office, Fort Crook Area, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, P.O. Box 13287, Bldg. 527, Offutt AFB, Omaha, Nebraska 68113, Telephone 402-293-2550. The work will include the following: (Approx. quantities) The project is located on the Missouri side of the Missouri River at river miles 516.4 to 520.33, 2.5 miles west of Corning, in Holt and Atchison Counties, Missouri. This is an environmental restoration project. The project involves excavation of 300,000 to 1,000,000 cubic yards of sediment from an old remnant river channel adjacent to the federal Missouri River Levee Unit L-536, lowering of closure dikes, construction of 3 rock grade control structures and 8 stone dikes using approximately 6,000 tons of rock, creation of elevated berms, and tree planting. The excavation will produce a channel approximately 3.5 miles long connected at both ends to the Missouri River. Land is available for disposal areas within the project boundaries, and Missouri River disposal is available for hydraulic dredging. The bid schedule is composed of a basic bid item and additives. The estimated construction cost of this project is between $1,000,000 and $2,500,000. Contractor's Quality Control will be a requirement in this contract. The Contractor will be required to commence work within 10 days after notice to proceed and complete the work 360 calendar days after receipt of Notice to Proceed. Provisions will be included for liquidated damages in case of failure to complete the work in the time allowed. Performance and payment bonds will be required. All requests for solicitation packages should be made in writing and no later than 14 daysprior to bid opening. After such time, packages will be furnished if supply is available.
