The Naval Air Systems Command Headquarters (NAVAIR) has a requirement and intends to issue a follow-on fixed price contract N00019-98-C-0060 with Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems, 86 South Cobb Drive, Marietta, GA. 30063. A fixed price contract will be the procurement vehicle to complete production Global Positioning System (GPS) installations in the S-3B aircraft. A total of fifty-eight (58) aircraft modification kits, fifty-eight (58) aircraft kit installations and (9) aircrew trainer modification kits were procured under NAVAIR contract N00019-96-C-0069. The follow-on base year contract will procure thirty seven (37) additional aircraft modification kits. The second year option will procure an additional twenty-one (21) aircraft modification kits and thirty-seven (37) aircraft kit installations. The third year option will procure twenty-one (21) aircraft installations. Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the S-3 aircraft and is presently developing and installing GPS kits in the S-3B. GPS installs are conducted concurrently with the Congressionally mandated USH-42 program to reduce installation costs and fleet aircraft downtime. As the system integrator for both GPS and USH-42 systems, Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems is the only company which has access to the necessary engineering drawings for this action, is proficient with both the modification and the aircraft, and can provide the necessary modifications to meet a DoD Year 2000 GPS installation requirement.
