58 -- UPGRADE OF SSA HEADQUARTERS NORTHERN TELECOM SL-100 TELEPHONE SYSTEM FOR YEAR 2000 COMPLIANCE DUE 021198 POC Edwin G. Casswell, Jr Tel: 410-965-9490 WEB: Copy of this announcement., http://www.ssa.gov/oag/oag1.htm. E-MAIL: Contracting Officer, Edwin.Casswell@ssa.gov. SOURCES SOUGHT -- The Social Security Administration has a requirement to upgrade its SL-100 Northern Telecom switch in order to be compliant for the Year 2000. The switch is currently configured for the Batch Change Supplement Release 36, working off a Junctored Network. It is the intent of SSA to upgrade the SL-100 to the Meridian Software Load (MSL) platform, in order to move to MSL Release 07 which is the software release that will accommodate the year 2000 conversion, according to Northern Telecom. At the same time, since the Junctored Network is Manufacture Discontinued effective December 31, 1998, SSA will also upgrade to Enhanced Networking (ENET) with decommissioning of all cabinets (hardware) that previously housed the network electronics and the network junctors, as well as the interswitch cabling which is housed in protective EMI bulkheads (Electro Magnetic Interference) that are unnecessary in order to provide more floor space within the switchroom. This willallow space for any expansion of the Main Distribution Frame, as necessary. This will include reconfiguration of the cable within the switchroom to accomplish the consolidation and removal of equipment. In order to be compliant for the year 2000, all peripheral equipment attached to the SL-100 must be upgraded. The current release for Meridian Mail is Release 10. It is SSA's intention to upgrade to Release 11 within the same scope of work. SSA is looking for an installation date for the project to begin by end of the second quarter, 1998 and be completed by the end of the fourth quarter, 1998. Vendors shall provide information about their company and include the number and qualifications of employees, detailing previous relevant experience and projects. Locations where similar equipment has been installed by the vendor shall also be provided. No cost or pricing data is required or requested. This is not a request for proposal, and the Government does not intend to pay for the information solicited or received. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation of the source data received. Any interested organization must submit appropriate data in duplicate within fifteen (15) days of this announcement. See note #22. (0021)
