Laboratory has a requirement for three prototype, high power-to-weight
ratio, brushless DC electric motors intended for investigation of
Micro Air Vehicles. The procurement will be issued on a 100% set aside
basis for small business concerns. Specifications are as follows: (a)
motor mass, including reduction gearing and motor controller less than
or equal to 6 grams, (b) design output power greater than or equal to
2 watts at a system efficiency greater than or equal to 80%, (c)
maximum continuous output power greater than or equal to 4 watts, (d)
operating voltage less than or equal to 6 volts DC, (e) a design point
operating speed of 5,000 rpm, (f) proportional speed control
compatible with a model hobby, radio-control pulse-width signal (4.8
volts), and (g) reversible direction of shaft rotation. The anticipated
budget for this effort is $50,000 or less. A Time And Materials type of
contract is anticipated, but proposals of other types of contract will
be considered. Proposals will be due approximately 40 days after the
