A -- RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT -- DESIGN, FABRICATION AND DELIVERY OF PROTOTYPE LIGHTWEIGHT, LOW VOLTAGE ELECTRIC MOTORS FOR MICRO AIR VEHICLES SOL N00173-98-R-JW03 POC James P. The Naval Research Laboratory has a requirement for three prototype, high power-to-weight ratio, brushless DC electric motors intended for investigation of Micro Air Vehicles. The procurement will be issued on a 100% set aside basis for small business concerns. Specifications are as follows: (a) motor mass, including reduction gearing and motor controller less than or equal to 6 grams, (b) design output power greater than or equal to 2 watts at a system efficiency greater than or equal to 80%, (c) maximum continuous output power greater than or equal to 4 watts, (d) operating voltage less than or equal to 6 volts DC, (e) a design point operating speed of 5,000 rpm, (f) proportional speed control compatible with a model hobby, radio-control pulse-width signal (4.8 volts), and (g) reversible direction of shaft rotation. The anticipated budget for this effort is $50,000 or less. A Time And Materials type of contract is anticipated, but proposals of other types of contract will be considered. Proposals will be due approximately 40 days after the solicitation is issued. A detailed statement of work will be issued with the solicitation. NRL uses Electronic Commerce (EC) to issue RFPs and amendments to RFPs. This solicitation and any amendments to it will be available via the Internet at the URL address shown below.
