COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JANUARY 30,1998 PSA#2022AFMC, Air Force Research Laboratory/IFK, 26 Electronic Parkway, Rome,
NY 13441-4514 P -- DEMOLITION AND REMOVAL OF ANTENNA TOWER DUE 021898 POC Paul
Vanderhoff, Program Manager, 315-330-4014; Gail Marsh, Contract
Specialist, 315-330-1940 Capable sources (prospective buyers) are
sought to purchase (by future sealed bid) and remove a 1200 foot steel,
triangular antenna tower located on the Forestport Test Annex, North
Lake Road, Town of Ohio, NY 13338. Two sale/removal options are being
considered for the Government sale of the surplus 1200' foot antenna
tower: 1) buyer to demolish and remove the standing tower from the site
and 2) buyer to remove the felled tower (on the ground) from the site.
Interested parties may respond to one or both of the sale/removal
options. The 1200' trianglar tower is 15' wide on each side and was
designed to endure a 150 mile wind velocity. The antenna tower consists
of approximately 772 ton of structural steel. The concrete anchors and
ground plane need not be removed. The legs are constructed in 20'
lengths using eight inch solid rod and tubular rod steel with bolted
flange construction. Horizontal cross members are galvanized structural
angle and diagonal sway bracing is 1-2" solid rod. The entire structure
is bolted together. It is supported by six guys at the 310', 670' and
1055' levels, some of which are anchored as far as 1051' away from the
base. The guys are 2.5" diameter steel cable and are each insulated in
3 or 4 sections. The tower includes an Otis elevator which operates
from the 80' level to the top of the tower. This elevator is not
operational. The tower includes a system of 12" flash technology high
intensity beacon lights (obstruction lighting system) located at the
300', 600', 900' and 1200' levels. Design calculations and fabrication
drawings are available, but most of the erection drawings are missing
from the drawing set. To review these documents, contact Paul
Vanderhoff at 315-330-4014. IMPORTANT NOTES: The tower has a lead based
protective coating. Compliance with OSHA regulations will be required
during removal (i.e., use of protective clothing, and respiration
devices). The following coordinations will be required: 1) the local
electric utility company (Niagara Mohawk Power Corp.) regarding the
overhead power lines along the North Lake Road, 2) the Town of Ohio,
Herkimer & Oneida County for temporary closure of North Lake Road, 3)
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and 4)
Adirondack Park Agency. In your response to this notice, please include
the following information: an indication of your interest to purchase
the tower standing or felled and method of removal and your
qualifications in this area. This information must be in writing,
forwarded to Gail Marsh at the above address or via FAX 315-330-7513
and must be received no later than 18 FEB 98. (0028) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0064 19980130\P-0002.SOL)
