Contracting Officer, (202)426-0097. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)
intends to award a bridge contract modification to Science Applications
International Corp. (SAIC) under Contract DE-AC01-93SA10043 which
expires on March 3, 1998. This acquisition is to continue the
technical, analytical, and administrative support services provided to
the Office of Safeguards and Security, Office of Security Affairs,
NN-50. The general activities within the functional areas will include,
technical support and assistance to the Office of the Director, Office
of Safeguards and Security, support and assistance to the Policy
Standards and Analysis Division, Field Operations Division and
Headquarters Operations Division, and word processing/clerical and
administrative support. The proposed 6 month base period modification
will be at 69,636 man-hours and two (2) optional 3 month periods will
be at 34,818 man-hours each and will prevent an adverse impact on the
mission of the Office of Safeguards and Security which would occur with
the interruption of thework presently performed under Contract. This
acquisition provides a "bridge" from the existing SAIC contract to a
new competitively awarded contract being solicited under
DE-RP01-98NN50188. The DOE Office of Procurement Services expects the
follow-on contract to be awarded within six months of the solicitation
release date, barring no unforseen complications. Solicitations for
the instant procurement are not available. Interested persons have 15
days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the
identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such
qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of
determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive
basis. Responses received after the 15 days or without the required
information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will
not be considered. A determination by the Government not to compete
this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon
responses to thisnotice is solely within the discretion of the
