Sources Sought -- L96 Anti-Riot Grenade and L-97 Practice Anti-Riot Grenade. The United Kingdom (UK) Minstry of Defence plans to issue a solicitation for the production of 19,000 each L96's and 22,000 each L-97's between FY99 to FY07. The L96 and L97 are updated versions of the standard UK L11 and L14 grenades, respectively. The L96 is filled with CS compound. The L97, a training version of the L96, uses a cinammic acid smoke fill to simulate CS. The US Army, PM Smoke/Obscurants, also plans to purchase 6,000 each of both the L96 and L97 as an option to the UK contract. The contract will be awarded by the UK using full and open competition and a government provided technical data package. Tenative contract award date is Jan 99. The contract will also include a First Article Test with about 1,000 L97 grenades.
