Gorman, (401) 841-2442 X203; FAX (401) 841-4820. WEB: Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport, http://www.npt.nuwc.navy.mil/contract/. E-MAIL: G. Shenberger, Purchasing Agent, shenberger@code59.npt.nuwc.navy.mil. The NAVAL UNDERSEA WARFARE CENTER, DIV NPT intends to award a sole source contract to Dantec Measurement Technology of Mahwah, New Jersey for a dual cavity Yag laser (Dantec 38A5268) and for a laser sheet generating optics for this laser (Dantec 80 x 30). A dual cavity YAG laser is required to conduct particle image velocity experiments and flow visualization in the NUWC flow-loop facility. This system must be portable and compatible with existing cameras and software. This laser will be used to conduct particle image velocimetry experiments and flow visualization in the NUWC flow-loop facility. Performance and/or manufacturing specifications for the dual cavity YAG laser: a YAG laser with two independent laser power supplies and laser tubes; the two laser tubes must be mounted into a single assembly, with their output beams aligned through the appropriate optics along a single firing axis; the laser heads should be connected to the power supplies via a flexible 8 foot umbilical cable containing all power and coolant lines; each laser power supply should have independent panel controls and external triggering input; each laser must produce pulse power greater than 40mJ @ 532nm; pulse duration less than 25nsec; beam diameter less than 3.5mm; beam divergence less than 3mrad; repetition rate greater than or equal to 15 pulse pairs per second; self-contained cooling system (no chiller or heat exchanger required); 120V A.C. power; portable, i.e., head weight less than 15lbs, head dimensions less than 15"x8"x8", power supply weight less than 45lbs, power supply in dimensions less than 24" by 12" by 24"; Multiple laser trigger options, i.e., single-shot push-button manual trigger, continuous internal trigger, external TTL trigger; RS232 control to: laser on/off, fire laser, fire a burst, or fire continuously, set repetition rate for burst or continuous firing (up to the maximum possible for the model), Set number of shots per burst; laser system must be compatible with the DANTEC and NUWC PIV systems. Specifications for the laser sheet generating optics for the laser above: nominal divergence angle of 10 degree(interchangable with other divergence angle lens optics); sheet thickness 3.5mm; direct mounting to laser head described in (1) above; suitable for use with 50mJ/pulse 532nm YAG laser, 3mm beam; protective windows and housing; optical transmission greater than 90%. The requested laser system and sheet generation optics are the only known combination of laser equipment compatible with the existing PIV system in the launcher and missile systems department. The cited PIV system is a CCD camera (Kodak Megaplus 1.0ES) based system. A customized control box produces four properly timed TTL trigger signals, two to trigger the two desired laser pulses and two to trigger the acquisition of images on a Dipix frame grabbing board. The external multiple-pulse triggering of the two laser pulses at the frame rates indicated in the accompanying small purchase supplement is critical to accurate system timing and operation. TheNew Wave 50mJ/pulse dual cavity Yag laser is customized by Dantec Inc. to properly integrate with the sheet generating optics system which itself is custom designed and manufactured by Dantec Inc. The output head of the New Wave laser system produces coincident laser beams from a small remote laser head which can be easily positioned. These features are required to properly generate the required light for the sited PIV system. The SIC Code is 3826. See Note 22. 18. 19. NAVAL UNDERSEA WARFARE CENTER DIVISION, NEWPORT 20.
