Systems,Inc., acting for and on behalf of the US Department of Energy
has 65 government-owned fluroine cells, 2 holding tanks, buss work and
switch gear, and fluorine cell stands for potential sale. The fluorine
cells are rated to operate in the 200-210 F range at 6,000 -- 6,800
amps to produce aprox. 7 lbs. of fluroine per hour. The cells will
contain approx. 212 gallons of potassium bilfluoride, lithium fluorine
and anhydrous hydrogen fluoride electrolyte mixture. Teh full cells
will weigh between 9,000 -10,000 lbs., and the empty cells will weigh
between 6,000 -- 7,000 lbs. Descriptions are as follows: 1. "Operable
Cells" (21 ea.) -- should be able to produce fluorine in their present
condition. All are full of electrolyte. 2. "Needs Service Cells" (26
ea.) -- are full of electrolyte but contain various degrees of dmaage
to internal components (i.e., broken anodes, hole in skirts, etc.).
Some amount of mainteance will be required to repair the cells to
operable condition. 3. "Needs Service Cellsl -- Empty of Electrolyte"
(18 ea.) -- have various degrees of damage to internal components and
contain a small heel of solidified electrolyte sludge or non-sludge.
Some amount of maintenance will be required to repair the cells to
operable condition. 4. "Holding Tanks" (2 ea.) -- are similar to the
cells; however, they donot contain the internal components or the gas
piping. One is full of electrolyte; the other contains aprox. 10" of
electrolyte. Descriptions for the buss work and switch gear are as
follows: 1. Old Cell Room -- operated a 36 fluorine cell plant. DC
power was furnished by 3 rectifiers which have max. output of 6,700
amps at 400 volts. 2. C&D Quadrant Cell Room -- operated a 28 fluorine
cell plant. DC power was furnished by 2 rectifiers which have max.
output of 6,000 amps at 460 volts. These cells are electrically
connected in series. The copper buss is located above the center of the
cell with a bypass switch and 2 disconnect switches for each cell
position. 3. E Quadrant Cell Room -- operated 14 fluorine cell plant.
DC power was furnished by 1 rectifier which had a max. ouptu of 6,700
amps at 400 volts. These cells are electriclaly connected in series
also, and the cooper buss is lcoated above the center of the cell with
a bypass switch and 2 disconnect switches for each cell position. 4.
Cell Conditioning Room -- operated 4 fluorine cells. DC power was
furnished by 2 rectifiers which had a max. output of 8,000 amps at 60
volts. One recitifer power 2 cell positions; however, the buss work was
equipped with switch gear to enable all 4 cells to be operated from
rectifier. Cooper buss is located above the center of the cell with a
bypass switch and 2 disconnect switches for each cell position. (0030) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0367 19980203\99-0002.SOL)
