COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 5,1998 PSA#2026PROPOSED SMALL BUSINESS SIZE STANDARDS FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES (SIC
8711), ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES (SIC 8712), AND SURVEYING (SIC 8713) AND
MAPPING SERVICES (SIC 7389, PART) The Small Business Administration
(SBA) has proposed small business size standards for the above
industries. The entire text of the Proposed Rule with the justification
for the proposed standards appears in the Federal Register of Tuesday,
February 3, 1998 (63 FR 5480-5484). SBA has proposed size standards of
$7.5 million in average annual receipts for general Engineering
Services (part of Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code 8711),
$5.0 million for Architectural Services (SIC code 8712) and $3.5
million for Surveying and Mapping Services (SIC code 8713 and part of
SIC code 7389). The current size standard for each of these industries
is $2.5 million (except for Mapping Services, for which SBA has
proposed to retain the current $3.5 million standard). The other size
standards applicable to Engineering Services under SIC code 8711
Military and Aerospace Equipment, Military Weapons, Marine Engineering,
and Naval Architecture are not reviewed as part of this proposed rule.
SBA has proposed the standards to better define the size of business
in those industries that the SBA believes should be eligible for
Federal small business assistance programs. Comments are due to SBA on
the Proposed Rule by April 6, 1998. WEB: Table of Small Business Size
