Y -- PREQUALIFICATION OF GENERAL CONTRACTORS FOR THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW POSTAL FACILITY IN SAIPAN SOL 052571-98-A-0006 DUE 031798 POC John Fraher, Purchasing Specialist or Grace Batesting, Contract Assistant, 650/615-7206 This is a notice of intent to prequalify firms to construct a new Postal Service Facility in Saipan. The USPS-owned facility is approximately 14,815 gross square feet on a 50,567 square foot leased site with an estimated cost range of $2,500,000 to $3,500,000. There is no fixed mechanization on this project. Planned construction starting date is August 1998 with a 300 calendar day construction period. Prequalification statements will be evaluated by the contracting officer's staff. Primary factors that will be considered and are of all equal importance, are: Qualifications of the project superintendent; Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 3 similar size projects within the past 5 years; Financial ability to complete the project; Ability to bond the project; Capacity to take on the project. Other factors to be considered will include: Management Plan and Safety Plan; Knowledge of local area; Firms fluency in the English language -- principals, project manager, superintendent and office staff. No fewer than three of the most highly qualified prime contractors will be placed on the prequalified contractors list. In the event the number of prequalified contractors is not sufficient to ensure adequate competition, the Postal Service reserves the right to prequalify additional contractors who will be eligible to receive the solicitation. Interested prime contractors may obtain a prequalification package at no cost by submitting a written request to Grace Batesting at the above address, or by faxing a request to Grace Batesting at 650/615-7206. The prequalification package will be sent by mail to firms that request it, it will not be faxed to the firms. Prequalification statements will not be returned.
