INTERESTED FIRMS The Balanced Budget Act of 1997 created Title XXI of
the Social Security Act, which establishes a Children's Health
Insurance Program (CHIP) to offer low-cost, subsidized health care
coverage to uninsured children from low-income families. General
information about this program, provided by the federal government, may
be found at WWW.HCFA.GOV. The Georgia Merit System (GMS) has
tentatively been selected as the State agency to implement and
administer CHIP in Georgia, although authorizing legislation is
currently pending. Because the timetable for implementation is
extremely critical, the GMS plans to solicit proposals in the next few
weeks from interested health care, dental, and vision benefits
providers. An informational meeting will be held on February 17, 1998
at 1:30 p.m. in the State Personnel Board Room, 200 Piedmont Avenue,
Suite 512, West Tower, Atlanta, Georgia. At this meeting, the GMS will
provide information concerning the proposed plan design, eligibility,
premium collection, and regional structure of CHIP, as well as the
tentative solicitation process. All interested firms are invited to
attend and to provide input. For directions, please call (404)
656-2701. (0041) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0389 19980212\99-0001.SOL)
