COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 17,1998 PSA#2033U.S. COMPUTER INDUSTRY TRADE MISSION TO CHINA, MAY 6 TO 15, 1998 The
U.S. Department of Commerce is inviting U.S. firms to participate in a
U.S. Computer Industry Trade Mission to China from May 6-15, 1998. No
more than 15 U.S. computer hardware, software, and networking
companies will be accepted as part of the delegation, which will be led
by a high-level Commerce official. The trade mission will include stops
in the cities of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing.
The U.S. Computer Industry Trade Mission to China will assist
participating companies in making valuable business contacts, gaining
market exposure, and signing the deals they need to succeed in the
world's fastest growing major computer market. The trade mission will
be the first of its kind since 1995. The trade mission will coincide
with two major trade shows, COMPUTER 98 in Hong Kong and Compu-Net Expo
98 in Shanghai. COMPUTER 98 will highlight the trade mission during the
opening ceremonies and has invited participating firms to speak at the
show. COMPUTER 98 is expected to attract over 300 exhibitors and over
140,000 visitors. The trade mission will also participate in Compu-Net
Expo 98 in Shanghai. Compu-Net Expo 98 is one of the largest trade
shows of its kind in China, attracting over 175 exhibitors and over
100,000 attendees in 1997. Companies that participate in this
high-level trade mission will also receive a listing (in Chinese) in
the USA Technology Industries Pavilion on CyberExpo, one of China's
premiere business Internet sites. The mission delegates will join the
American Electronics Association, the Telecommunications Industry
Association, the U.S. Information Technology Office, and dozens of
select U.S. IT companies on what is quickly becoming the hottest
business-related information source on ChinaNet. CyberExpo is located
at URL http://pc21.szptt.net.cn/. The cost of the trade mission is
$5,000 per company. Interested companies should request a participation
kit immediately as slots tend to fill quickly. For more information,
