20228 36 -- SPECIAL MACHINERY: SIMULATED CURRENCY PRINTING AND PROCESSING
MACHINERY POC Contact Joan C. Waters, Contract Specialist, (202)
874-2183 The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is seeking
potential sources of new equipment and equipment vendor capabilities to
simulate the printing of U.S. currency. Specifically, BEP is conducting
market research to ascertain the availability of equipment and
accessories that will simulate the three processes to produce currency:
(1) initial printing, (2) examination, and (3) overprinting of bank and
Federal Reserve seals and numbers. The third process also involves the
currency being cut into individual notes and stacked into a pile of
100 notes. The BEP's current product designs, manufacturing
configurations or physical restrictions should not limit responses.
Responses are encouraged which include a machine that would receive a
substrate with printing on only one side with the blank side initially
showing. After entering a simulated pritning machine, the substrate
would turn over to give the appearance that printing had taken place.
This announcement is not a request for proposals, but a request for the
submission of technological and corporate information. The Government
does not intend to award a contract on the basis of the information
submitted, or otherwise pay for the information provided. All
interested sources are requested to submit information regarding their
current and/or potential product lines, technological and corporate
capabilities, and responses to the areas of interest no later than
March 18, 1998. All responses may be mailed to the address above or
telefaxed to (202) 874-2200. BEP may contact vendors for further
information. (0049) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0214 19980220\36-0002.SOL)
