Paraboloidal Mirror, elroy.m.akioka@jpl.nasa.gov. The Jet Propulsion
Laboratory/California Institute of Technology (JPL/Caltech), operating
under a prime contract with the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA), is actively seeking a contractor who will design
and fabricate a paraboloidal mirror that will demonstrate lightweight
mirror technology for space flight use. The demonstration will consist
of one demonstration with a subscale mirror and an optional
demonstration with a full-scale mirror. The requirements for the two
demonstrations are the same, differing only by the size of the mirror
demonstrated. The mirror shall be 3.8m in diameter, f/0.5 and operate
between 70 to 90 K with a total surface error of not more than 2.4 mm
rms and shall be of the lightest technology that can meet the
specifications. The first demonstration will use a mirror that is equal
to or greater than 2m in diameter with a curvature close to that of the
full-scale 3.8 m diameter mirror. The optional second demonstration
will test the full-scale 3.8m diametermirror. The proposal due date is
19 March 1998, 3:00 p.m. (PST). (0049) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0009 19980220\A-0009.SOL)
