20375 42 -- FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS SOL N00173-98-Q-0026 DUE 030998 POC
Darlene Copp, Purchasing Agent, (202) 767-2374 Fax (202) 404-8158. The
Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is investigating environmentally
friendly total flooding fire suppression systems for future use in Navy
Ships. The Total Flooding Halon 1301 Alternative Technologies Project
has been developed to identify self contained halon alternative fire
suppression technologies for shipboard applications in both occupied
and unoccupied spaces. The suppression systems desired must be
previously developed systems that are currently available on the
commercial market. Additionally, the required suppression systems must
not contain materials with Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of 0.01 or
greater, high Global Warning Potential (GWP), or long atmospheric
lifetimes. The following system design and system performance
requirements must be considered. The suppression systems shall be self
contained systems and must not require an external power source for
operation. The systems must not exceed a maximum of three times the
space and weight requirements of a conventional Halon 1301
totalflooding system. System activation shall be achieved through
either manual or automatic means. The suppression system must be
suitable for suppression of Class A and B fire scenarios, and offer
protection against reignition. Respondents are requested to submit
information on available systems with documentation addressing the
system design and system performance requirements, as discussed above.
Responses must be received by close of business on March 9, 1998.
