Orosz_Rachel%PAX9B@MR.NAWCAD.NAVY.MIL. 17. The Naval Air Warfare Center
Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Patuxent River, MD is seeking information
from potential sources regarding industry technologies applicable to
improving Aircrew Multi-Place Life Raft (MPLR) performance and
maintainability for Helicopter and other applicable Fixed-Winged
Aircraft. This request is for INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY. Current MPLR's
utilize manufacturing techniques, design and inspection cycles that are
outdated, expensive and environmentally unfriendly. These MPLR's also
have limited reliability and require periodic inspection, maintenance
and repack cycles. From a safety perspective, the existing rafts are
bulky and/or stowed in aircraft locations with limited accessibility
during emergency egress. The US Navy is looking to reduce raft bulk and
weight, simplify current inventories and reduce logistical support
requirements. The US Navy seeks to acquire current or emergent
technology and design that focuses on the following five major areas:
(1) Heat sealed seam construction that allows vacuum packaging, (2)
No-leak inflation systems, (3) Self- righting capabilities, (4)
Self-erecting overhead canopy (to aid injured mishap survivors), and
(5) Self- inflating boarding stations. The NAWCAD is seeking innovative
solutions addressing these requirements. Commercial solutions,
technical solutions currently in production and/or prototype stages are
highly desired. Companies responding to this request should provide
detailed information on their capabilities and experience to Ms. Rachel
Orosz, Code 2.5.4.2.1P, Bldg 588, Suite 2, NAWCAD, 47253 Whalen Road
Unit 588, Patuxent River, MD 20670-1463. Written responses should be
submitted by 31 March 1998 and reference this synopsis number on both
the mailing envelope as well as on all enclosed documents. Interested
companies should indicate whether or not they are a small, small
disadvantaged, 8(a), or large business. Respondents must clarify if
their firm can provide commercial or non-developmental items that could
be modified to meet NAWCAD's needs. Please address all technical
questions to Mr. Charles O'Rourke, Code 4.6.3.2, (301) 342-9211.
Samples and 3-D models are encouraged. Proprietary information MUST be
marked as such, on a page-by-page basis. This announcement is NOT a
Request For Proposal nor does the Government intend to pay for any
information/items submitted in response to this synopsis. Data, samples
and 3-D models will not be returned. This synopsis does not commit the

only and any procurement resulting from this announcement will be
