Wolfe, 304/285-5883 The National Institutes for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) facility in Morgantown, WV intends to purchase supplies to operate the Affymetrix GeneChip Expression Analysis System for two projects. One project seeks to identify epigenetic (gene-expression) changes that result from occupational exposures to various chemicals and the second seeks to identify genetic markers (such as the p53 gene) that influence susceptibility to cancer. Specifically, the NIOSH will be acquiring Human Expression Analysis Probe Arrays (Hu6800 Set -- 20 antisense arrays. Cat#900160 -- Qty 2), Expression Analysis Test Probe Arrays (Test 1. Cat#900153 -- Qty 4), Human p53 Probe Arrays (Qty 150 arrays) and Multiplex kits for p53 (Qty 150). These essential supplies are only known to be available from the manufacturer of the GeneChip system and are only available through open market purchase. Vendors capable of providing probe arrays designed specifically to fit into the Hewlett Packard scanner port so that each feature of the gene array can be read independently by the laser detector are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures and references to Brenda L. If no organizations respond and demonstrate their capability to provide supplies comparable to the one described above within 10 days after publication of this notice, the Government intends to negotiate and award on a sole source basis with Affymetrix, Inc., Santa Clara, CA. There is no other known source that has successfully utilized photolithography technology for human genetic research that is compatible with the HP GeneArray scanner at this time.
