The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is conducting a survey to identify potential licensees for the marketing, distribution and/or further development of the Java-based EMSL(Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory) Publisher software product(s) developed for the Department of Energy. The EMSL Publisher, containing its own text engine, is a word processor and presentation tool that is customizable to many applications via Java Beans and various plug-in applets. This software was developed and designed primarily for preparation and printing of highly stylized documents such as scientific, technical journal articles. Written in 100% Java (Version 1.1 JDK -- Sun Microsystems), the software can operate on any computer platform including Windows 95/NT, Macintosh, Sun Solaris and most other Unix platforms. There are two versions of this software, the EMSL Publisher Lite and the EMSL Publisher Professional. The EMSL Publisher Lite is a word processor and presentation package that offers the user a standard range of word processing options along with the ability to display and edit JavaBeans within the document. The EMSL Publisher Professional extends the basic functionality of the Lite version in order to address the task of scientific document preparation and publication. The Professional version offers automatic journal styling, chemical and mathematical equation setting, references database and distributed document server technologies.
