The operational changes will center health care around the patient with emphasis on primary and ambulatory care: The VAHN will require strategies and transitional plans to: Establish managed care approaches for high volume activities in high risk environments; establish techniques to accelerate transmission through the continuum of care; establish discharge planning techniques; establish specialty referral practice protocols and criteria; establish incentive programs; establish methods to increase physician productivity and effectiveness. The VAHN is composed of eight health care facilities, one satellite outpatient clinic and a series of community based outpatient clinics (follow-up care). The Network provides patient care services to veterans from Kansas and Missouri as well as portions of several neighboring states. The corporate headquarters of the VAHN are located in Kansas City, Missouri. Some travel to the network facilities and meetings may be required but the majority of the work can be accomplished through the corporate office.
