The US Army TACOM-ARDEC intends to issue a solicitation for the design, engineering development, fabrication and test of a Breech Mounted Laser Ignition System (BMLIS) for the 155mm Crusader Cannon. This effort will be issued under the Small Business Innovative Research program to Hi-Shear Technology Corp., 24225 Garnier St., Torrance, CA. This will be a three phased effort; total period of performance anticipated at 18 months. Phases 2 and 3 will be funded based on test results from the preceding phase(s). The BMLIS consists of a Breech Mounted Laser head, Laser Pulse Generator and electrical cabling and shall be designed, developed and fabricated to meet the performance cirteria specified by the Crusader Cannon Subsystem Prime Item Development Specification. The SOW calls for the design, development and fabrication of three laser igniter systems and five complete pump chambers for each phase. Testing includes energy, divergence, thermal and rate testing, as well as finite elements analysis. The contractor will be required to have a Quality Management system and a Reliability and Maintainability Process Control system. It is the Government's intent to award a Cost Plus Fixed Fee contract as a result of this solicitation. A copy of the solicitation will be available on the Internet at http://procnet.pica.army.mil. Interested parties will be required to submit an approved DD2345 in order to receive this information. Proposals are required to be submit ted electronically via disk or other electronic media.
