mitchell@fetc.doe.gov. To facilitate the treatment and disposal of
mixed waste stored at various Department of Energy (DOE) sites, a
nonintrusive neutron interrogation prototype system needs to be further
developed and demonstrated to assay the RCRA metal content in 55-gallon
drums of mixed waste. This assay system should reduce or eliminte the
need for analytical laboratory sampling of individual drums of mixed
waste. The lower limits of detection should be 10 ppm for Cadmium, 115
ppm for Mercury and 4400 ppm for lead. The assay system should be
structured so that potential interfering mechanisms, such a background
gamma and neutron radiation from the radioactive waste components and
the presence of neutron-absorbing materials are addressed. The offeror
will have previously demonstrated a successful working model of the
assay system for detecting and measuring low levels of Cadmium, Mercury
and lead. (0069) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0009 19980312\A-0009.SOL)
