SYMPOSIUM On May 6-7, 1998, AFCEA International will host its annual
Spring Intelligence Symposium at the Central Intelligence Agency,
Langley, Virginia. This year's theme is "Information Dissemination: The
Next Intelligence Community Challenge." A detailed agenda, an
"Exhibitor Gallery," featuring the 45 companies who will be exhibiting
in the CIA Headquarters, and online registration are available at

Secret SI/TK clearance.KEYNOTE SPEAKER:Lt Gen Kenneth A. Minihan, USAF,
Director, National Security Agency. SYMPOSIUM CONTEXT: The focus of
this two-day, Top Secret SI/TK event is on information dissemination:
the challenges, the solutions, the opportunities. The Symposium will
begin with a technology session that will serve as a tutorial/update on
Intelink, the Internet and Web-based dissemination, information
security, multi-media technology, network communications, and more.
Next, senior media representatives will present a commercial
dissemination model and showcase how intelligence dissemination efforts
can leverage off private industry. Then, leaders from the Intelligence
Community will discuss the issues in disseminating intelligence to
national consumers. Finally, an experienced JTF commander and the joint
and service elements that support him will examine the challenges of
intelligence dissemination to military commanders. In addition, 45
companies will exhibit the latest in intelligence-related technology.
This program has been designed to provide Intelligence professionals
with the continuing education they need to stay current in their
profession and to facilitate dialogue between and among the
Intelligence Community components and Industry. DOD APPROVAL: "The
Department of Defense finds this event meets the minimum regulatory
standards for attendance by DoD employees. This finding does not
constitute a blanket approval or endorsement for attendance. Individual
DoD component commands or organizations are responsible for approving
attendance of its DoD employees based on mission requirements and DoD
regulations." PROGRAM-AT-A-GLANCE. WEDNESDAY, MAY 6, 1998. SESSION ONE:
"Technology Overview." During this special session, attendees will hear
all about two major technological advances for intelligence: INTELINK
and JIVA, (the Joint Intelligence Virtual Architecture). Both of these
projects are intended to help manage the increasing volume of
intelligence and intelligence-related data that must be collected,
correlated, analyzed and disseminated. Project leaders will discuss the
potential and the challenges these systems represent. Session Chairman:
Lt Gen James R. Clapper, Jr., USAF (Ret.), Executive Director, Special
Intelligence Programs, Booz-Allen & Hamilton. SESSION TWO: "Private
Industry Will Make It Happen." Many ask why intelligence dissemination
can't be like commercial news operations. Indeed, private industry's
technology and knowledge must be leveraged if information dissemination
forthe defense and intelligence communities is to be successful in the
21st Century. In this session, attendees will hear leaders from media
giants describe their experiences in adapting their information
services to the dynamic and highly competitive Web-based environment.
Their insights provide a valuable input to the Intelligence Community.

National Security Agency. TECHNOLOGY RECEPTION. Enjoy great food and
drink, view the latest intelligence-related technology, and network
with other Intelligence Community professionals. THURSDAY, MAY 7, 1998.
SESSION THREE: "Intelligence Dissemination to National Consumers." In
this session, attendees will learn from agency leaders about NSA's
National Cryptologic Strategy for the 21st Century and the newly
developed Unified Cryptologic Architecture, the NRO architecture for
critical national indications and warning, and NIMA's plans for
real-time dissemination of imagery and maps. In addition, they'll hear
about State Department efforts to improve Intelligence support to
diplomacy. Finally, they'll gain insights into House and Senate
priorities for intelligence dissemination. Session Chairman: Dr. Mark
M. Lowenthal, President and COO, Open Source Solutions USA. SESSION
FOUR: "Dissemination Support to Military Commanders." This session will
take intelligence dissemination to the "battlefield" and focus on
support to military commanders. Attendees will hear direct from an
experienced Joint Task Force commander and the joint and service
elements of the Intelligence Community tasked with supporting him.
They'll hear what works, what doesn't, and what needs to happen if the
Intelligence Community is to help commanders respond to 21st Century
