66 -- SHELL-TYPE BALANCE SOL F40650-98-R-0015 DUE 042798 POC Kathy P. Swanson, Contract Specialist, (931) 454-4409 This procurement is for a shell-type, six-component, internal strain gage balance. The diameter of the balance is 2.500 inches; overall length is less than 14.5 inches. Balance rated capacities are as follows: Normal Force (NF) lbs @ 0 PM -- 5,000; Pitching Moment (PM) in-lbs @ 0 NF -- 22,500; Side Force (SF) lbs @ 0 YM -- 2,000; Yawing Moment (YM) @ 0 SF -- 7,500; Rolling Moment (RM) in-lbs -- 4,000; Axial Force (AF) lbs -- 800. These loadings are for PM and YM referenced to the balance center. To reduce maintenance costs, most, if not all, of the strain gages, wiring, and balance cable connections shall be accessible without disassembly of the balance. The balance shall have a taper attachment at the sting end matching the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) 1.850 standard taper specifications. The balance shall attach to the model through a single cylindrical outer shell (floating frame) and shall be secured to the model through an interference fit pin(s). The final designof the attachments shall be approved by AEDC. Quantity -- 1 each. Delivery FOB Destination: Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. This synopsis is approved for a sole source contract action as authorized in FAR 6.302-1 (supplies or services are considered to be available from only one source). The intended source is Micro Craft Technology, 3050 Pacific Highway, San Diego CA 92101-1127. No solicitation package will be issued. However, all interested sources may identify their interest but must provide proof of capability to provide an acceptable product by submitting pricing data, an accurate description of the equipment offered, and make and model numbers of the equipment. Only responses containing this data will be considered for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Award will not be made on the basis of responses received to this synopsis. If no favorable responses are received by close of business 45 days from the date this notice appears in the CBD, a contract will be negotiated with the above named source. See numbered Note 22.
