National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has a requirement
to operate and maintain the NIAID Network on Antimicrobial Resistance
in Staphylococcus aureus (NARSA). The NARSA will establish a virtual
network of investigators studying S. aureus and antimicrobial
resistance and provide a versatile resource to the international
research community by acquiring information about cases of infections
due to S. aureus with reduced susceptibility or resistance to
vancomycin, acquiring isolates from these cases, confirming the
identity and purity of the isolates, characterizing the isolates with
respect to susceptibility to antimicrobial agents, growing additional
quantities of the isolates, and providing these isolates to qualified
investigators throughout the world. At the Government's option, the
NARSA will conduct epidemiological studies based on this information.
This information will be disseminated through print and electronically
over the World Wide Web. It is anticipated that one (1)
cost-reimbursement, completion type contract will be awarded for a
period of seven (7) years. RFP NIH-NIAID-DMID-98-24 will be available
